Welcome to "Making Connections!" A blog-post series highlighting the amazing women entrepreneurs we have the pleasure of knowing and working with in Lac La Biche, Plamondon and surrounding areas! Each week we will be highlighting a different woman entrepreneur who is benefiting the community with their knowledge, drive, talent and skill. We're truly honoured and blessed to call these beautiful individuals our friends and are so excited for the opportunity to work with them in our little piece of northern paradise!
Welcome to the seventh feature in our Connections series. Let me introduce you to Allison Dupre, Plamondon based photographer!
I’m an amateur in every sense, but I freaking LOVE photography so I do my best to capture the views, places, things and people that leave me feeling inspired. Nature and wildlife have always been my focus when it comes to photography. I’m an outdoor-minded person and always seem to find myself face to face with the eyes of some forest creature so it naturally just became what I shot. A few weeks ago, however, I had an urge to try portraiture. Portraiture or portrait photography meaning, "photography of a person or group of people that captures the personality of the subject by using effective lighting, backdrops and poses". It’s an art I see as absolutely necessary and something I have always wanted to learn more about and gain more experience in. So, I sought the modelling help of one of the dancers I’ve had the pleasure of teaching and gave it a go – oh my gosh you guys, it’s HARD!
There’s photography composition, lighting and eye. And then there’s also positioning, facial expression expertise, new-born wrapping, outfit/costume pairing… My friends, portraiture (couple, wedding, family, new-born etc.) is a fine-tuned art form that requires incredible talent, skill and vision.
Allison Andria is a Plamondon based photographer who specializes in this art of portraiture. I’ve had the pleasure of not only knowing this wonderful woman through our entrepreneur group, but I also know a number of her clients, and have been a client of hers myself. Her work is nothing short of incredible. Check out the galleries on her site and I know you’ll be just as in awe of her talent as I am. How does she make a new-born babe do that!?!? How did she think to take that yoga-pic of me from that particular angle!? How did she digitally extend the background to make it look seamless!?
Not only is she an incredible photographer, she is also a fantastic teacher of the form. Allison recently founded Twigs & Dimples Photography Club, which seeks to encourage those interested in photography in and around Plamondon and Lac La Biche, to take out their cameras and practice, play and develop photography skills.
Here’s more about her in her own words…
“I am Allison Dupre, owner and photographer at Allison Andria Photography, based out of my new little studio in Plamondon, Alberta. A small little northern town, full of beauty and diversity. I have been a photographer professionally for just over 10 years, although I feel like I am still brand new to it with all that I continue to learn in this field. My job allows me to work with people in loving relationships, documenting this emotion through the photographs that I capture. The love of a couple committing their lives to one another, the love of a mom for the new life she is carrying inside of her, the love of meeting that perfect baby created by love, the fun-loving families enjoying time together. Every good and perfect gift, given to us from above. I am blessed to be entrusted to capture. I can’t imagine doing anything different.”
